Macor®
The ideal material for design, development and service. It is non-wetting, has essentially zero porosity and, unlike ductile materials, will not deform. It is also an excellent insulator at high voltages, various frequencies and high temperatures. When used in vacuum environments, Macor® does not outgas. This white material is opaque and porcelain-like in appearance. It combines the performance of a technical ceramic with the versatility of a high-performance polymer.
Zeodur®
Zeodur® is considered a glass ceramic. It is used in large telescopes. Zeodur’s special feature is that it shows extremely little expansion with temperature changes.
Transparent Glass Ceramics Various glass surface characteristics can be achieved with the manufacturing processes for glasses. Whereas with normal window glass (which can be manufactured with the float process) an absolutely smooth surface can be achieved, the first step in glass ceramics is rolled glass. |
